A perennial ICA favourite, this vintage documentary joins on-screen guide James Mason for a tour of London back in the 1960s, with the dapper actor leading us up, in and around the capital’s hidden (and now largely long-gone) basements, alleys, nooks and crannies.

An impressive documentary combines a strong idea and an original starting point with a professional execution . It is easy enough to come up with an idea, but how do you go about putting together a budget? Who can you talk to about subsidies? Which type of project is most likely to be subsidized? How do you find a TV channel willing to coproduce your documentary? What about international coproductions? And which other financial possibilities are there, nationally and internationally?
The Day of the Doc is your chance to get all those questions answered. The Flemish Audiovisual Fund, MEDIA and the European Documentary Network will be giving practice oriented lectures. Afterwards, all participants can join a round of “speed dating” in which they can have a one-on-one with subsidizing institutions as well as national and international producers. Throughout the day, the DOCVILLE archives are available for browsing. We close off our day with a unique screening of the film “Capturing Reality: the Art of Documentary”
- Date: May 7, 2010, 10u30 AM – 5 PM
- Address: Art Centre STUK, Naamsestraat 96, 3000 Leuven

I Went To The House But Did Not Enter is a staged concert in three tableaux, composed by Heiner Goebbels and magnificiently performed by the world-famous Hilliard Ensemble. The tableaux are dedicated to four key twentieth-century literary texts by T.S. Eliot, Maurice Blanchot, Franz Kafka and Samuel Beckett. Although markedly different, each text focuses on a fragmented and anonymous protagonist, an anti-hero who embarks on a journey to everywhere and nowhere. Through imaginative staging and a wonderfully restrained vocal presence that is strikingly different from the performance style often found on the operatic stage, the four singers bring each story vividly to life.
